Hoops Latest:Celtic to sanction permanent Idah transfer after ‘perfect’ loan
Celtic have proven they were right to recruit Adam Idah on-loan in January
Former Hoops star Mark Wilson, who was clearly leery of the move, feels that way.
Idah made 19 appearances and scored nine goals, including the game-winning goal in Saturday’s Scottish Cup final.
Additionally, it’s believed that Norwich City might profit from the Republic of Ireland striker if Celtic is
prepared to pay roughly £5 million, given that the team did not advance to the English Premier League in the
play-offs.
Wilson has since retracted his earlier assertion that Aberdeen’s star player, Bojan Miovski, would be a wiser
investment. Instead, the former defender now feels that Idah meets all the requirements to succeed at Parkhead
in the long run.
Clyde 1 Super Scoreboard was informed by him, “I believe Celtic should sign him.” That’s what I thought a few
weeks ago. When the question of whether you would prefer (Bojan) Miovski for £5 million arose, I responded,
“Miovski.”But I would have grabbed Idah if that was your only option and he was available for £5 million.
Eliminate the Cup Final goal, and that’s his league contribution.
“I think back to the Hibs match at Easter Road; he started that game ahead of Kyogo and scored two goals.
“You consider the importance of his inclusion after 45 minutes in the Motherwell game. I am aware that the
Killie game is the season’s penultimate match. It’s still complicated, though, and he played a key role in getting
that outcome. He has undoubtedly accomplished enough for Brendan Rodgers to sign him.
“You expect a striker to have an impact when you sign him on loan in January. You want them to score goals
and guide you in the correct way, and I believe Idah has accomplished all of that.
“When Kyogo isn’t playing well or you want to switch things up and be a little more direct, he’s the ideal guy to
take his place. However, he is more than that; he can connect the play and complete it. You’re looking for
something akin to a trial period starting in January, and he’s completed all those tasks since his arrival.
“With important objectives, Idaho has checked all those boxes. He has scored several significant goals, none
more so than in the Cup Final. You’re always assessed as a striker on huge goals. I’m not sure what will work in
your favor if that doesn’t.
“I wasn’t very sold on Idah joining either, and Celtic’s transfer activity in January was a complete bust.
How is he going to fit in here after failing to get a game for Norwich? But I felt there was something there when
I first saw him.”
