Following the announcement that Still is unlikely to travel to the Stadium of Light or the North East, Carlton

Palmer spoke to FLW regarding the upsetting news for Sunderland supporters and the mounting worries that

now exist.

“I worry about Sunderland. Palmer informed FLW, “They are witnessing all of their shortlisted managerial

targets resign for their current clubs, or move on to other projects.”

“It is a major setback for Sunderland since it has been reported that Still is about to accept a contract with Lens.

“I think the strategy they have implemented is deterring managers from agreeing to a contract with the team.

They will want to bring their own backroom personnel, but it is not acceptable to be limited to just one.

Furthermore, it is not helpful to exclusively work with young players or bring in unproven youths, particularly

at the Championship level, with the intention of selling them for a large profit. Managers want to do things their

way because they understand that their actions will be evaluated based on results, but the current restrictions

will probably make it difficult for them to compete in the playoffs and other events.

Maybe it’s time for the Sunderland hierarchy to take a seat and realize that they need to change the way they

think. The issue they currently face is that there are managers available who are unemployed, but they would

prefer to hire people who are under contract elsewhere, for whom they will have to pay compensation—

something that it has been demonstrated they do not do.

“They have chosen not to hire a number of unemployed managers, despite having the opportunity to hire a

number of very good managers.” Given that the transfer window is about to open, Sunderland supporters must

be extremely concerned about all of this.

and that they will need to be conducting some business; yet, there is no assurance that everything will run well in the absence of a manager.

“It’s even more of a concern if the hierarchy is going to be doing the scouting, as it would leave any potential

new manager with players that they had perhaps never wanted to sign.”

The most recent Sunderland manager hunt

Palmer notes that Sunderland supporters must be extremely concerned and frustrated that their hunt for a

manager appears to be taking longer than expected given Still’s departure to Lens.

Even more frustrating may be the fact that yesterday afternoon, just when Black Cats supporters were

beginning to believe that there had been an appointment, it was quickly canceled.

Raphael Wicky was named manager by the Black Cats, according to a report published by Calcio Mercato

yesterday. Less than an hour later, though, Fabrizio Romano tweeted that Wicky had not been contacted at all

and that the rumors regarding his appointment were unfounded.

The Sunderland leadership will have to start again in light of this news and the rumors that Still appears to be

staying in France with RC Lens.

More pressure is on to find Beale‘s eventual replacement because the summer window is drawing near.
