When Kyrie Irving trampled on the team’s logo while he was with the Nets, he received a lot of criticism from Celtics supporters. Now that the Mavericks are involved, the picture has gone viral once more.

Following their Monday night victory over the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals, the Boston Celtics have been waiting for the conclusion of the Western Conference Finals to find out who their final opponent of the season would be.

It was made known that Kyrie Irving and the Dallas Mavericks would face the Celtics in the 2024 NBA Finals following their victory in Game 5 on Thursday night.

This series has a ton of storylines, the main one being Irving’s return to Boston on the greatest platform available in the league. One of the reasons Irving is unpopular in Boston is because, when he was a player for the Brooklyn Nets, he was caught stomping the Celtics emblem at TD Garden.

Naturally, after Dallas secured their berth in the Finals, that picture went viral. It turns out that the picture has a fascinating Mavericks twist that has drawn a lot of attention from fans.

Irving played for the Celtics for two seasons before announcing with confidence that he will re-sign with the organization in the upcoming offseason before the 2018–19 campaign began.

After that team failed to advance past the Elite Eight, Irving reneged on his commitment and signed a free agent contract with the Nets, joining forces with Kevin Durant. Irving has been Boston’s worst public nemesis ever since.

Fans have booed Irving harshly whenever he has returned to TD Garden since leaving the C’s, and they became much more enraged after he was seen stomping on their emblem during Game 4 of their first-round series in the 2021 NBA Playoffs.

The image of Irving stomping on the Celtics emblem turns out to have the Mavericks logo in the background. This adds an unsettling twist to an image that has been making the rounds on social media ever since the Mavericks defeated the Timberwolves in Game 5.

After Irving and the Nets humiliated the Celtics in five games in 2021, Boston bounced back the next year, sweeping Brooklyn in the opening round of the 2022 playoffs.

They will now face off in the decisive series, where a championship is at stake, raising the stakes significantly. In this ongoing feud, whichever party prevails will surely have the upper hand.

We are in for a fantastic series, and Irving should be prepared for a few jeers whenever he travels throughout this series. Dallas and Boston both looked excellent in their respective conference finals.

The Boston Celtics have a great opportunity to both win a championship and keep Irving from winning another one when they play the Dallas Mavericks in the Finals.
