Leicester City: Ruud van Nistelrooy claim emerges amid Enzo Maresca pending exit

Ruud van Nistelrooy has emerged as a candidate to succeed Enzo Maresca as Leicester City look for a replacement.

Despite having a fantastic season that saw them win the Championship title in style,

the Foxes have had a frantic few days as it has been announced that the man who masterminded their success, manager Maresca, is set to join Chelsea.

That has put the King Power Stadium leadership in a tough position as they prepare for life again in the Premier League,

with emphasis now focused on who can succeed the Italian.

Ruud van Nistelrooy in contention for Leicester City job

In a recent development, writer Sacha Tavolieri has indicated that Dutchman van Nistelrooy is a possible target  for the Midlands outfit.

“Ruud Van Nistelrooy is being considered as a replacement for Enzo Maresca,

who is expected to be hired as Chelsea Football Club’s new manager. Confirmed.”

Most fans would recognise the 47-year-old from his playing days,

when he won the Premier League with Manchester United, two Spanish titles with Real Madrid, and 70 caps for his nation.

However, van Nistelrooy has also created a name for himself as a coach,

having begun his career as an assistant for the Netherlands.

After taking the reserve team role with PSV, he stepped up to the top post in 2022,

and he enjoyed a good year in charge, which saw the club win the Dutch Cup,

but he departed  shortly after that success amid reports of issues with some players.

That was van Nistelrooy’s final employment, thus he is unemployed,

which indicates that a deal would be reasonably simple to complete.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy would be a gamble for Leicester City.

There’s little doubt that this would be a risk for the Foxes,

but everyone thought the same thing when they hired Maresca last year, and that decision paid off.

So, the owner will not be afraid to take a chance on someone, and van Nistelrooy is not a complete rookie,

having worked at a very large club in PSV where trophies are expected to be delivered, and he did so, even if it wasn’t the league title.

The opportunity to travel to England is bound to  appeal to van Nistelrooy,

but he would have a hunger and determination to prove himself, which will no doubt appeal to Leicester.

Leicester City’s Summer Plans

Bringing in a new head coach is Leicester’s top priority right now,

but there will be a lot of work to complete before the new season begins in August.

It is commonly acknowledged that the club has PSR concerns,

and there is concern that a large sale would be required in the next weeks to comply moving forward.

Even still, a points reduction is on the way, and it has been reported that they could lose up to 15 points next season,

which would be extremely problematic for whoever is in charge.

So there will be a lot happening at Leicester during the next few months.
