Michael Beale was appointed as Tony Mowbray’s replacement after the latter unexpectedly resigned, but the former Rangers manager failed at the Stadium of Light.

He was only in command for two months before Mike Dodds took over for the remainder of the campaign, and Sunderland had a miserable campaign.

Owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and sporting director Kristjaan Speakman have been searching for a long-term replacement for Beale since his departure back in February, and a number of names have been connected to the position.

Additionally, The Sun has disclosed that Wicky is a target in a recent update.

The 47-year-old most recently managed BSC Young Boys, a Swiss team that won the league and the cup in his first season of leadership.

Though they have continued to win the league, Wicky is currently without a team after being fired in March.

Prior to joining BSC Young Boys, Wicky spent years teaching FC Basel’s junior teams, where he held the position of head coach in 2017.
