Newcastle United’s season is at risk of failure should they not earn European qualification

A late surge up the table by Chelsea has been made possible by just one point from two crucial fixtures;

conference league football now looks to be the most likely outcome, assuming that Newcastle do not collapse

against Brentford this weekend. Eddie Howe’s team must match Man United’s result at Brighton and hope they

lose the FA Cup final on May 25. Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan believes Eddie Howe deserves

another season at St James’ Park, but he does not expect him to lead Newcastle United to glory.

CEO Darren Eales stated in January that qualifying for Europe would be the ultimate goal and that failure to do

so would be viewed as a failure. However, former Palace CEO Jordan has supported Howe in keeping his

position even though he has called for a change in the future.

“People think that Newcastle is a terrible regression because you finished fourth last year,” he said in an

interview with talkSPORT. They established an amazing bar for themselves, one that was really challenging to

meet.

“Watching them was an exciting experience. Considering each season separately, they performed incredibly well

in the previous one. Eddie Howe is deserving of another opportunity to drive.

Newcastle should be fine if they place eighth. Not by their own standards, but by their pay scale and position on

the new ownership model’s evolutionary curve.

Do you believe Howe will guide them to the promised land? No, I don’t. As I’ve always stated, he will be a part

of Newcastle’s journey. They won’t, in my opinion, bring him to the promised land.

It’s not as though I’m disparaging or criticizing Eddie. I can see clearly what the ownership of Newcastle wants.

They’ll need a little better manager who can win things, in my opinion, if they want to accomplish that

(win the Premier League).
