Ipswich officially announce new manager deal – Interesting to see what Manchester United do now

It would be interesting to see what happens at Manchester United,

given that Ipswich Town announced today (see below) that Kieran McKenna has signed a new four-year contract.

It was widely assumed that he would be in charge at Old Trafford next season,

but it will stay Portman Road. Unless there are any more twists.

A short check reveals that Ipswich Town last played in the top league in 2002.

Good luck to them and their supporters after such a long absence.

So, will Manchester United keep (stuck?) with Erik ten Hag after he led them to their worst league result in 33 years?

Has the FA Cup final fluke put them in an impossible situation?

It’s very amusing, as clearly ten Hag is not up to the job, but a bit like Solskjaer ended up doing,

clinging on by doing just enough not to get sacked. The big question of course now as well is just who could Man U attract these days?

So much upheaval, with Chelsea, Liverpool, and West Ham all getting new managers, and if Manchester United does the same,

four of the seven clubs that finished third to ninth this season will have made changes. Of course,

Brighton, who finished twelfth, also lost their boss.

With so much change and volatility, will these clubs hit the ground running in August?

One thing is certain: I wouldn’t bet a dime on any of these new Premier League managerial choices surviving the entire season.

So, will Manchester United stick or twist with Erik ten Hag?

Ipswich Town Official Announcement – May 30, 2024:

Tractor boys are pleased to announce that Manager Kieran McKenna has signed a new four-year contract with the club.

The Blues manager, who has led Town to back-to-back promotions,

propelling the club to the Premier League for the first time in 22 years,

has signed an enhanced and extended contract until the summer of 2028.

The new contract follows a season in which Town led the Championship goalscoring charts and suffered only six defeats on their way to automatic promotion,

earning 194 points and scoring 193 goals across the last two league seasons.

Assistant Manager Martyn Pert, First-Team Coaches Charlie Turnbull and Lee Grant,

and Head of Goalkeeping Rene Gilmartin have all extended their contracts.

After signing his new contract, Kieran stated: “I am incredibly delighted to have signed a new contract with the Club.

“We’ve had incredible success together over the last two seasons,

and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity and responsibility of leading this fantastic club into its first Premier League season in 22 years.”

“Preparation and planning for the task ahead has been ongoing since we earned promotion at the beginning of May,

and there is still much work to be done before the start of the new season at such an exciting moment for everyone at the club.

“I am so happy to have committed my future to taking the next step with Ipswich Town and

am really excited for what’s ahead as we continue this journey together.”

Town CEO Mark Ashton stated, “We are thrilled Kieran has further committed to his future to the Club.

“Success comes its own obstacles, and there has been a lot of speculation in recent weeks,

but Kieran and I have kept in touch throughout, frequently several times each day,

as we prepare for the Club’s first Premier League season in a decade.

“For Kieran to have signed a new contract is a significant boost, heading into such an important campaign,

as we continue the hard work in preparation for the coming season.”
