Update on Thanasis Antetokounmpo’s potentially career-ending Achilles injury

Thanasis Antetokounmpo, a forward with the Milwaukee Bucks, suffered a career-threatening Achilles injury at the close of the season, casting even more doubt on his future. Giannis’ older brother will need a long recuperation period after surgery to repair a damaged Achilles tendon.

Fortunately, it appears that Thanasis will be making a comeback much sooner than anticipated.

After only a six-month hiatus, the older Antetokounmpo is hoping to go back on the basketball floor, according to Harris Starvou of SPORT24.

Players with this kind of injury typically miss a whole season, as we have seen in the past, so the fact that Thanasis is only expected to miss half of that time is a considerable development.

In almost six months, Thanasis Antetokounmpo is working hard to get back into action. “TA will be a free agent this offseason and will support the Greek NT in the pre-olympic tournament in Piraeus,” according to Stavrou.

But the truth is that there’s no way of knowing if Thanasis will be able to make a comeback in six months. How his body reacts to surgery and rehabilitation will play a major role in his journey to recovery.

Nevertheless, this is still encouraging news for Antetokounmp, who is hoping to sign a long-term deal extension with the Bucks this summer.
