Rudy Galleti delivers update on Atletico Madrid’s interest in Celtic’s Matt O’Riley

There will probably be a lot of arrivals at Paradise in the summer as Brendan Rodgers looks to bolster his squad for the forthcoming Champions League as well as defend his Scottish Premiership title.

There will, however, also be expenses to consider. While some are required and desired, others are probably going to be pursued by other teams who want to lure some of Celtic’s top players away from Parkhead.
Among those who might be persuaded is Matt O’Riley, the Celtic hero.

Every Celtics supporter is aware of Atletico’s enthusiasm for O’Riley. The Danish international helped the team win two more titles this season and has had a tremendous season both at home and in Europe.
With a brazen bid for the 23-year-old in the January transfer window, Atletico Madrid tried Celtic’s willpower. However, the club remained steadfast and fought back.
Even if the Hoops midfielder acknowledged that Atletico’s interest did have an impact on his play, it doesn’t appear that the La Liga powerhouses’ determination has been weakened by their January rejection.

Rudy Galletti of Sky Sports tweeted an update on Atleti’s interest last night on X, citing this information.

Four months after Celtic rejected the Spaniards’ initial proposal, many Celtic supporters would have thought that the Spanish team would still be interested.
However, it appears that O’Riley is one of their primary objectives. I explained on this website why Celtics supporters shouldn’t be concerned about their idol leaving this summer.

Maybe O’Riley will agree to give it another go after seeing the revamped Champions League one more time.
The temptation of playing in one of the top leagues in Europe, though, might be too strong to resist a second time, especially as Atletico will be in the competition the following season if they do support their apparent interest with another bid this summer.
