Sunderland may now have a dark horse in manager race after latest developments

In light of recent events, this 46-year-old coach might now be a dark horse for the Sunderland manager

position.

Even after Michael Beale was fired by Sunderland in February, the team still has a manager.

Owner of Sunderland Kyril Louis-Dreyfus is still missing out on rumored prospects; Bo Svensson accepted a

position at Union Berlin, and it is now very doubtful that Danny Rohl or Steve Cooper will show up at the

Stadium of Light.

It appeared last week that Will Still would be joining the rising number of managers who have been connected

to Sunderland but are moving on.

Although Still was approached by Norwich City, it appears that the Canaries will instead appoint Johannes Hoff

Thorup; still, it is rumored that Still’s transfer to Sunderland is progressively less likely.

The list of candidates predicted to take over as Sunderland’s manager is getting much smaller.

But Paul Heckingbottom is still available.

Paul Heckingbottom would be a fantastic fit for Sunderland for three reasons.

Heckingbottom makes a lot of contributions. But experience is one thing he provides in spades.

After starting his career as a young youngster at Sunderland, he went on to play professionally for teams like

Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley, Bradford City, and many more, appearing in over 400 games.

And after managing all of Barnsley, Leeds United, Hibernian, and Sheffield United for a combined total of 265

games, Heckingbottom has an exact 40% victory percentage overall.

Last year, he was promoted from the Championship with Sheffield United and from League One as manager of

Barnsley.

With his extensive experience, Heckingbottom will also have many contacts that might be useful should he take

over as Sunderland’s manager in the future.

Someone like yet however, at just 31 years old and yet extremely inexperienced in the dugout, may not have

such contacts in the game.

Communication skills will also be crucial for Sunderland officials when they make their next appointment;

Beale’s public remarks and unfavorable playing style were major factors in his falling out with the team and

supporters.
