Confirmed:Graham Potter signs new contract with brighton to replace Roberto De Zerbi
Next Brighton manager: A stern warning for Graham Potter after early favourite commits to Premier League rival
Ally McCoist, a former striker for Rangers, thinks that Graham Potter’s potential return to Brighton would
cause issues.
With Roberto De Zerbi leaving Brighton, Potter is currently the overwhelming favorite according to the bookies
to take over.
Kieran McKenna, the manager of Ipswich Town, was reportedly at the top of Albion’s list and the early favorite,
but it now appears that the former Manchester United coach will agree to a new contract with the team.
The League Managers Association recently chose McKenna as manager of the year after he led Ipswich to
promotion, bringing an end to the team’s 22-year run out of the English Premier League.
It is understood that Russell Martin of Southampton and former Swansea manager Potter were also considered
for the Brighton position, along with McKenna.
Potter’s comeback is made possible, but this might be a decision that splits Brighton supporters.
Many are still furious over how he left for Chelsea in 2022, taking club legend Bruno and several other
important coaching staff members with him.
When he and his Chelsea team came to the Amex, the crowd there was hostile as well, and Brighton won 4-1
under De Zerbi’s leadership. Potter endured a torturous ninety minutes on the south coast, being heckled from
the moment he stepped into the Chelsea bus.
Speaking on TalkSport, McCoist stated: “There’s a big question mark around Graham Potter’s reappointment.
That would be a wise choice in many respects, but not because of his coaching abilities.
But in terms of bringing a fan base together.
And that is essential if you want to get started right away. A split among the Brighton supporters, in my opinion, would not be wise for either Graham Potter or Brighton.”
