49ers finally sell out Leeds United star striker for less than last summer’s £18m price tag

One of Leeds United’s attacking studs was the target of bids last summer, but with the player eager to leave, the 49ers may have to accept offers at a reduced fee this summer.

Leeds lost out on Premier League TV money due to their defeat to Southampton, and with a massive £190 million in outstanding player transactions, the 49ers must make some money at Elland Road.

Winger Willy Gnonto is one player who is expected to go, and the sales of Tyler Adams and Luis Sinisterrs will help ease those problems, but more work needs to be done to reduce that number to a tolerable quantity.

Naturally, Gnonto attempted to force a trade last summer by refusing to play for Leeds. In August of last year, it saw the Italian decline to play against West Bromwich Albion, Shrewsbury Town, and Birmingham City.

Players will now need to be sold because the team is unable to secure promotion. Gnonto is eager to get back to Serie A, but Everton may try again after acquiring Jack Harrison to acquire the former Inter star.

Leeds may have to sell Willy Gnonto for less than £18m price tag

Everton made two attempts to recruit Gnonto last summer, the second coming in just short of £20 million. Leeds, however, insisted that Gnonto would not be transferred, and the supporters persisted. However, things have changed drastically this summer.

Leeds needs to balance the finances, and one asset that can be sold that will attract interest is Gnonto. Gnonto is reportedly “waiting” to leave and prepared to bid Leeds farewell, according to a recent Calcio Mercato article.

It further states Leeds will probably have to accept a lower price for him than their initial £18 million asking price. Before Gnonto relocated from Zurich to Elland Road, interest was expressed by AC Milan, Fiorentina, Torino, and Sassuolo.

Gnonto is one of five players predicted to be leaving Leeds

After Leeds’ loss to Southampton at Wembley, Jon Newsome made a prediction that five players might leave the team in the summer. He thought Joe Rodon would join Tottenham Hotspur again.

Since he is just on loan, it seems likely that after claiming that Leeds will be selling Gnonto and Crysencio Summerville, there will be interest in Ethan Ampadu and Dan James come summertime.

Leeds must sell players, and if the team can secure a sum of money anywhere near the £18 million they sought in the previous summer, then that action is required. Really, Gnonto needs a change following the lackluster 23–24 season.
