Gers have reportedly made an offer to free agent Ross Barkley, who recently left Chelsea.

The Stamford Bridge club cut their losses on the 28-year-old after the England international failed to make an impression during a four-and-a-half-year tenure in London.

Barkley signed for Everton for £15 million in 2018 and was loaned out to Aston Villa last season,

but his development has mostly stalled since leaving Goodison Park as one of the Premier League’s top prospects.

Rangers have been linked with a move for the free agent as the transfer deadline approaches,

after being mooted as a potential Celtic target earlier this summer.

Barkley’s earnings could be a deterrent factor, as sources suggest he earned a stunning £200,000-a-week package with the Blues,

but Football Scotland report Barkley’s name has “come up in discussions after his agent floated his name to the Gers recruitment team about a possible link-up.”

The Scottish Premiership club does not appear to be the only one interested in signing Barkley. David Moyes has hinted at a possible return to West Ham.

Moyes gave Barkley his debut as a kid at Everton and wouldn’t rule out bringing the midfielder to London Stadium.

When asked about a move for Barkley, he said: “I would never rule anyone out, but I have to say on Ross,

I gave him his debut at 16 and he’s had a really good career.”

“He’s represented England and played for big clubs. If it’s not us, I wish him the best wherever he goes.”
