Rangers unveil statue of legendary manager Walter Smith at Ibrox

In Ibrox, a statue of Rangers great Walter Smith was unveiled prior to yesterday’s Scottish Cup Final.

In honor of the Ibrox hero, who tragically died in October 2021, a statue was made.

Planning approval was obtained, as we previously reported.

to erect the bronze structure on the stadium’s corner between Edmiston House and the Copland Road stand.

Fans were made aware of it yesterday, Saturday, May 25, prior to Rangers’ Scottish Cup Final matchup against Celtic at Hampden Park.

The Smith family, comprising Neil Smith, Walter Smith’s wife, Ethel Smith, and Steven Smith, assisted in the statue’s unveiling.

It was created and sculpted by London-based artist Douglas Jennings,

whose work includes football players Jack Charlton and George Cohen, as well as a statue of Queen Elizabeth II in London.

Smith’s status as a Glasgow club legend has been established by his

experiences at Ibrox as a young lad and his management of Rangers to their several victories.

The team won nine consecutive league titles, three Scottish Cups, and three League Cups when he was captain.

Pictures from the club’s unveiling of the new statue showed throngs of supporters gathered nearby to see the momentous occasion.
