Leeds face Graham Potter conundrum in bid to avoid repeat of 14-year Premier League misery

Leeds are huge supporters of Graham Potter, therefore the key question for them is whether they will continue

with Daniel Farke and rebuild for another shot at promotion under his leadership, or will they look elsewhere.

Even though it would be devastating if Leeds’ play-off curse persisted, this won’t be the same as the moment

they lost the Championship final in 2006.

Then, it took them 14 years under Marcelo Bielsa to get it back to the Premier League.

This time, it won’t take as long, and the 49s Enterprises, the owners of Leeds, intend to match their funding.

They wanted it to occur this year so they could begin spending and redeveloping Elland Road.

Will they continue to work with Daniel Farke is the key question. Given that they are huge Graham Potter fans,

would they rebuild for another shot at promotion under him, or will they go elsewhere?

It will be difficult for them to hold onto Crysencio Summerville, the Championship Player of the Year, who was

substituted, while loan players Connor Roberts and Joe Rodon will be heading back to Burnley and Tottenham,

respectively. Leeds’ crushing of Norwich in the second leg of the semi-final hides how awful their run-in has

been.

They had only won twice in their previous nine games, and after storming to the top in March, they had run out

of gas.

At Wembley, they reverted to their old ways, and their defense of Adam Armstrong’s goal was appalling.

In order to beat Ilan Meslier, Ethan Ampadu moved up and gave him much too much room to choose his place.

This season, Armstrong has scored four goals in three games against Leeds, so you would think that by now,

they would be aware to keep a close eye on him.

Leeds’ finishing was terrible as well, as Alex McCarthy was not troubled by Summerville, Joel Piroe, Georginio

Rutter, or Willy Gnonto in their front four. Gnonto was replaced by Dan James, whose energetic performance

made one wonder why Farke had not started him.

James came closest to netting for Leeds twice: once in stoppage time when he struck the crossbar, and again

when McCarthy denied him. When the final whistle blew, several Leeds players went down, and Mateo Joseph

hit the ground in despair.

Leeds has far too many tales of misfortune, and this one was no exception.
