Celtic captain is not ready to slow down amid fitness fears

Notwithstanding his recent injury concerns, Callum McGregor claims he still has it in him to play in as many

as 50 games per season and has no plans to reduce his workload with the Celtics the following season.

This afternoon’s Scottish Cup final will mark the Celtic captain’s 50th appearance for both club and country this season,

and he still has the European Championships with Scotland to come next month.

He suffered from Achilles tendonitis at the end of February, which caused him to miss about six weeks of Celtic action.

He recovered in time to help his team win the Premiership,

and although he is still not fully recovered, he says he can still produce a strong performance.

In response to the question of whether he needs to start worrying about body management at the age of 30, McGregor responded,

“Not really, no.” It’s evident that I recently sustained the injury, but that happens.

I’ve played a ton of football over the course of the last ten or eleven years.

I think I’ve participated in over 50 games in eight or nine of those seasons.

“You simply adjust to it.” Your physique adjusts to it.

There has been some discussion on the injuries in the past, but you spend the most of the season carrying different burdens.

“I know I’ve missed a few games, but I’m finally feeling well again, and the season’s end is probably coming at the wrong time.”

“However, I feel good because we have the Euros to look forward to after Saturday.

“I feel terrific, my mind is clear, and I’m still hungry. That’s another fifty odd games.
