Ipswich town plotting loan transfer swoop for Southampton’s Adam Armstrong but face competition from Championship Rival

Adam Armstrong, a striker for Southampton, is someone WATFORD is interested in loaning to.

Middlesbrough, a championship rival, is also interested in the former Blackburn Rovers player,

but they will have to work hard to persuade him to move back down a league.

Armstrong scored 28 goals in 40 games during the 2020–21 Championship season for Blackburn.

The 25-year-old was able to sign a £15 million contract to join the Saints last summer,

but he had trouble establishing himself in the Premier League.

Adam Armstrong struggled for goals since moving to the Premier League
The former Newcastle player only managed one more goal this season,

against Aston Villa in November, after scoring on his away debut against Everton.

After losing his spot in the starting lineup to Armando Broja and Che Adams,

Armstrong was a benchwarmer for the majority of the second half of the season.

Southampton is therefore thinking about letting the forward go on a temporary basis,

however they would first need to make some top-level reinforcements.

Armstrong’s unwillingness to leave the Premier League is another obstacle to a Watford and Boro agreement.

As direct competitors, the Saints would not loan to another elite team.

According to a SunSport exclusive, Southampton was eager to bring Broja back to the south coast following his season-long loan from Chelsea,

but they felt the possible sum of £30 million was too much.

The Manchester City kid Liam Delap, the son of former Saints player Rory Delap,

has caught the attention of the St. Mary’s team.

In the summer, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s team has already brought in two players: Gavin Bazunu,

the goalkeeper, and Armel Bella-Kotchap, the center back.
