The encounter will take place during a UEFA Nations League international break, as both clubs announced. Man Utd’s captain for the day will be none other than Red Devils legend Bryan Robson.

He also stated on the English giants’ club website about the players lining up to compete: “We’ve had some amazing games over the years, and even though the players are retired, they all still have a strong desire to win. It gives me great pleasure to be leading the group once more.

“We’re really looking forward to this game and hope to see a large turnout of United and Celtic supporters.” They can support the Foundation and its incredible work by attending Old Trafford with

the knowledge that they will be in for a fantastic afternoon.

Manchester United and Celtic have a long history together. In 1967, Jock Stein’s team became the first British team to win the European Championship, and Manchester United overthrew the Hoops as the new champions. A number of United greats, including Robson, Bryan Brian McClair, Roy Keane, who played for both teams, and Ryan Giggs, have also sent invitations to Celtic to oppose them in testimonial games.

The clubs previously faced off in the Champions League in 2008–09, with Alex Ferguson’s team

winning 3-0 at Old Trafford. Giggs overturned Scott McDonald’s goal to secure a draw at Parkhead

and prevent them from losing again following Shunsuke Nakamura’s historic victory in 2006.

The game is scheduled for Saturday, September 7 2024.
