Brendan Rodgers reveals ‘sad part’ of £14m Leicester City transfer

The most recent Leicester City news is that a former loan player

is a sensation around Europe following his exploits in the Europa League

final against Atalanta and Bayer Leverkusen, which he won.

Ademola Lookman, a former Leicester City loan player,

scored a hat-trick in Atalanta’s Europa League victory over Bayer Leverkusen,

and Brendan Rodgers praised his professionalism.

The 26-year-old scored each of his team’s three goals to hand Xabi Alonso’s

Bundesliga champions their first loss of the season and propel himself back into the spotlight,

which he hasn’t been in since leaving the Premier League in 2022.

Lookman was a member of Celtic manager Rodgers’ City team during

the 2021–2022 season while he was an Everton player.

“What a professional he is, how he looks after himself, the extra work he does in training.

Those goals that he scored, he practises those after training.

He’d always do extra finishing. His professionalism was unbelievable

and the only sad part for us was at the end of that season,

we had a clause where we could have bought him for £14 million.

The only disappointing thing for us was that, at the end of that season,

we had a provision that allowed us to purchase him for £14 million.

Other than that, his professionalism was amazing.

However, if you go back to that summer, we were unable to sign any players.

At that point, Lee Congerton, a man I worked closely with both at Leicester and here at Celtic,

was the general manager of Atalanta. He took him to Atlanta after realizing we couldn’t take him,

and he’s performed incredibly well there. I’m overjoyed because of this. the goals he scored,

particularly the third and second. “He scored some massive goals

for me at Leicester he scored the winning goal in a game against Liverpool at home.

It was a brilliant individual goal but I was so, so pleased for him because

he’s travelled the world to be the best player that he can be and I’m so happy

his talents been able to flourish in such a big occasion.”
