Vincent Kompany agrees SHOCK move to become Bayern Munich manager despite being relegated with Burnley on just 24 points as German giants finally find a successor to Thomas Tuchel
Even though the 38-year-old has only won five games this season,
he has remained in demand after being confirmed for relegation from the Premier League earlier this month.
In Bayern’s hunt for Thomas Tuchel’s replacement, candidates like Xabi Alonso,
former Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick, and previous head coach Julian Nagelsmann all declined to take on the position.
After announcing his retirement three months prior,
the German giants had even made an attempt to persuade Tuchel to stay, but those concession discussions were unsuccessful in bringing about a change of heart.
To finalize a trade in the upcoming days, Bayern has resorted to Kompany and met with Burnley chairman Alan Pace yesterday to discuss a compensation price.
Speaking German fluently, Kompany joined Manchester City in 2008 after spending two seasons at Hamburg,
and he is reported to have impressed the Bayern management with his ideology.
However, given their separate poor campaigns, it is a risk for both parties.
For the first time since 2012, Bayern did not win the Bundesliga,
and Kompany’s reputation—which was damaged by his 19th-place finish—at Turf Moor—
was damaged by his association with Chelsea and Tottenham last season.
Pace will suffer a serious setback as a result of the Bayern events.
Pace had anticipated that Kompany would lead a push for promotion from the Championship.
The Belgian was given a great deal of trust by Burnley’s board,
who also gave him a great deal of authority, especially in the hiring division.
That did not, however, stop Kompany from managing relegation following his summertime expenditure of more than £90 million.
It is believed that the Clarets were considering finding a new coach to serve under Kompany the next season because they were so certain he would stay in command.
