JUST IN: Anthony Gordon finally makes his career decision on leaving St James’ Park this summer

Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon has been linked with a transfer to Liverpool in the summer after an impressive campaign at St James’ Park

Anthony Gordon, a winger for Newcastle United, scored on Wednesday night against Manchester United to cap off an incredible season.

Gordon had an outstanding season at St. James’ Park,

and the Daily Star had earlier this week revealed that Liverpool was keeping an eye on him as the summer transfer market approached.

After leaving Everton in January 2023, the left-handed winger has been steadily improving in the North East.

The England international has had a breakthrough season, tallying 12 goals and 11 assists across all competitions.

On Wednesday night, he scored his most recent goal to tie Newcastle and United at the Stretford End by sliding home in front of the crowd.

Gordon was seen shoving aside the home fans who had been making fun of him for being from Liverpool,

then ripping off his shirt as he wheeled away in jubilation.

The 23-year-old was reportedly raised as a Reds fan even though he had played for the Blues.

Gordon was asked to pick his childhood football idol by Gary Neville in a recent interview with The Overlap.

In response, he said, “My childhood football hero was Steven Gerrard.

“Coming from Liverpool, he was like a God in Liverpool, and he was an unbelievable player.”

Even if he could want to play football like his idol, new manager Arne Slot might have to pay a lot of money to get him to Anfield.

Gordon’s current contract at St James’ Park is set to expire in 2026 and it is understood a

bid of £100m would need to be made to bring him to the red half of the city.
