Lawrence Shankland finally signs for Celtic? – Fabrizio Romano confirms

Any notion that Celtic was considering a January move for Hearts star Lawrence Shankland has been completely destroyed by Brendan Rodgers.

The Scotland international is the top scorer in the Scottish Premiership with 27 goals this season in all competitions. However, with Shankland having 18 months left on his Tynecastle deal, there were rumors in January suggesting a move to Celtic or Rangers would be imminent. Ultimately, Rodgers was able to acquire the striker he desired when Adam Idah, on loan from Norwich City, arrived.

However, with the Hoops’ defense having a difficult time stopping the prolific striker on Sunday, Rodgers’ exaggeration of the Hearts captain’s accomplishments this season during the team’s pregame news conference stoked more rumors. When asked if he had kept Shankland quiet during their trip to Gorgie, the Celtic manager said, “I love watching him.”

“He was a player that was being discussed when I first came here and I had heard good things about him. After returning, he can now be seen playing in the Premiership; he is a child who appears to be very focused on the game.

“He has really good technique and uses his body well to protect the ball. He scores all types of goals – left foot, right foot, good in the air. So he is a very, very good player. Like you say, he is one we have to manage well.”

Asked if by on the radar Rodgers meant he has “considered putting a bid in”, the Celtic boss was quick to shut it down with one word and a shake of the head. He replied bluntly: “No.”
