Chelsea hold talks over appointing Kieran McKenna as new manager

Over the past few weeks, Chelsea has been in talks with Kieran McKenna‘s representatives regarding his

potential appointment as manager, sources have told Football Insider.

According to insiders, the Blues are looking for a “young, dynamic manager” who can oversee and implement a

Chelsea is keeping a close eye on McKenna after he made a significant impression in his first managerial

position at Ipswich.

Roberto De Zerbi, Burnley’s Vincent Kompany, Brentford’s Thomas Frank, Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca,

Girona’s Michel, and Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeness are among candidates for the recently open Stamford

Bridge position.

Football Insider reported on May 20th that Manchester United is to approach Ipswich Town about McKenna’s

availability after initially revealing their interest in the club’s former youth-team coach at the beginning of April.

Stamford Bridge officials will have competition if they wish to appoint McKenna as their new boss.

This summer, the 38-year-old will have an uphill battle to cling onto after he achieved the club’s eagerly

anticipated return to the Premier League after back-to-back promotions.

At Chelsea, Kieran McKenna may take Mauricio Pochettino’s place.

In the months preceding his departure from Chelsea, there was a great deal of conjecture over Pochettino’s role

within the team.

The Blues put together a solid run over the last four weeks and ultimately concluded the season in sixth place.

Discussions with McKenna taking over for Pochettino at Stamford Bridge are still going on as they try to find a

younger manager.

Since taking over at Ipswich in 2021, the Northern Irishman has amassed a 57.3 per cent victory rate,

demonstrating his impressive managerial skills in his brief tenure.

After leaving Brighton lately, De Zerbi is being considered as a potential possibility. Frank and Kompany are

also on the list, but they have both been connected to the Bayern Munich position.

While Michel and Hoeness both finished in the top four with Girona and Stuttgart, Maresca won the

Championship with Leicester.
