Unexpectedly, Celtic prodigy Daniel Kelly may be interested in a move from newly crowned unstoppable Bundesliga winners Bayer Leverkusen.

This season, the 18-year-old has established himself on Brendan Rodgers’ starting squad and taken home the Hoops’ Academy Player of the Year honor.

A European suitor has surfaced, and his present Parkhead contract expires at the end of the year with no agreement on a renewal.

Leverkusen wants to sign a contract with the Bhoys because he thinks Kelly has “serious talent” for his age group, according to Football Scotland. Kelly is not bound by a long-term deal at Parkhead, so they could acquire him for as little as £500,000 in compensation fees.

Nonetheless, it’s reported that Celtic wants to keep the young player with the team, and they believe that if contract extension talks go well, they may persuade him to stay. Later this week, talks about a new deal are expected to take place.

Rodgers has given the teenager opportunities this campaign and sees him as a member of the starting squad.

Though it could be hard to refuse a move to Germany with a squad aiming for a historic, unbeatable triple crown.

The Bundesliga is renowned for offering young people big opportunities, and an increasing number of young Scots—like Lewis Ferguson and Max Johnston—are leaving Scotland to pursue success abroad.

It seems as though the ball is in Kelly’s court with this one. He knows what he is getting at Celtic having been at the club through his youth, but a switch to Germany will undoubtedly be tempting.
