Leeds United’s Welsh defender confirmed his return to parent club after Elland Road loan spell

Roberts signed with the Whites on January’s deadline, but he hasn’t played as much as he would have liked.

Due to injuries and positional competitors Archie Gray and

Sam Byram’s strong play during the second half of the season,

the seasoned international defender has found himself in and out of the starting lineup.

After the 2023–24 Premier League ended, Burnley revealed their retained list,

confirming that Roberts will be returning to Turf Moor this coming weekend when Leeds’ play-off campaign ends.

At Wembley Stadium on Sunday, the 28-year-old is still anticipated to be included in Daniel Farke’s matchday squad.

Additionally, his elevation to the top division may open the door for additional discussions regarding his future.

It has been determined that Roberts will rejoin his parent club at this time,

most likely because of the uncertainty surrounding which level Leeds would play in the following season

and the different financial limits between Premier League

membership and a second consecutive year in the Championship.

“A Burnley club statement stated that following loan stints away, Connor Roberts, CJ Egan Riley,

Anass Zaroury, Samuel Bastien, Darko Churlinov, Michael Obafemi, Owen Dodgson, Luke McNally,

Scott Twine, Wout Weghorst, Michael Mellon, and Dara Costelloe have all returned to the club.”

Since joining United in January, Roberts has fit in well with the team; therefore,

from the player’s point of view, a future transfer is still possible.

“Football’s a funny game, so I’ll be doing my very best to make a good impression on and off the pitch,

and maybe in the future it can change from a straight loan but yeah,

At the moment, it’s just come here, try and help on and off the pitch,

,” the Wales international said upon arriving just under four months ago.

During his initial 14 games on loan, the defender has made one assist and one goal against Leicester City at Elland Road.
