Tony Mowbray, who formerly managed Celtic, has resigned as Birmingham City’s first-team manager.

The Englishman briefly stepped away from on-site duties in February before taking a formal leave of medical absence in March due to unforeseen surgery.

After joining the club in January to replace Wayne Rooney in the dugout at St. Andrew’s, the 60-year-old only took command of eight games and won four.

In the end, however, his tenure in the Midlands was marred by health concerns, and he has opted to quit today to focus on recuperation and spending time with his family.

A fair decision, City are now looking for their sixth manager in 12 months amid recent relegation to English League One.

They had hoped Mowbray would return to guide them back to the second tier, but that will not be the case, and they will now require a permanent successor for the ex-Celt.
