DONE DEAL: Chris Rigg has been selected for England U17’s upcoming European Championship campaign in Cyprus

England has picked up Chris Rigg to the under-17 European Championship team.

The young midfield player has led the England under-16 international team and has 27 youth caps.

Rigg made 22 appearances for the Black Cats during the 23–24 season, solidifying his place in Sunderland’s senior squad.

Chris Rigg, a midfielder for Sunderland who just earned his first Championship start,

has been included in England’s under-17 squad ahead of their qualifying for the European Championship later this month.

The official England under-17 squad for the forthcoming European Under-17 Championship finals in Cyprus includes Chris Rigg.

In Group D, England’s next opponents are Portugal on Friday, May 24, and Spain on Monday, May 27.

The top two teams advance to the quarterfinals. The competition’s championship match is scheduled for Wednesday, June 5.

After getting sent off in a qualifying match back in May, the 16-year-old midfielder,

who appeared in 21 Championship games during the 2023–24 season,

will be suspended and unavailable for the Young Lions’ opening group play against France on Tuesday, May 21.
