Aston Villa closing on deal to sign Ross Barkley from Luton

Aston Villa is nearing a permanent signing of Ross Barkley. In preparation for their first Champions League or European Cup campaign since 1982–1983,

Villa wants to bolster their roster.

The 30-year-old, who has 33 England caps, performed admirably for Luton after signing on a free transfer from

Nice last summer. Barkley’s contract, which was never revealed by relegated Luton, is believed to extend into

the next season. Barkley declared last month that he wished to play in the Premier League. I want to perform

once more in Europe. I think I might still be in my prime for the next three years.

Barkley’s signing for a nominal amount would be astute business, a low-risk agreement such to the one Villa

signed Youri Tielemans for when his Leicester contract expired. Manchester United and Barkley have also been

connected. Villa wants an attacker, a full-back, and two midfield players. Conor Gallagher of Chelsea is being

pursued by a number of teams, including them.

Villa should be cautious about sustainability and profitability regulations even with the financial benefit of

Champions League qualification. Villa reported a £119.6m loss for the 2022–2023 fiscal year in their most

recent records. One of their key priorities will be to offload Philippe Coutinho, who played on loan with Al-

Duhail in Qatar during the previous season. They might also need to take serious offers into consideration for

their own midfield player, Jacob Ramsey.

Adidas and Villa announced a multi-year kit agreement on Monday. After players voiced their concerns,

Villa complained to their supplier Castore in September regarding the quality of their shirts. Chris Heck,

the head of business at Villa, stated that the goal of the collaboration with Adidas is to “place ourselves

consistently among the top football clubs globally.”
