Sunderland’s stance over permanent deal for 24-year-old loan man emerges

Alan Nixon reports that Sunderland loan player Callum Styles is expected to return to Barnsley, as the Black Cats are considering alternative options instead of exercising their option to purchase him.

When Sunderland announced in January that they had signed Hungary international Styles on a one-year loan from Barnsley, it appeared as though they had struck gold.

The two teams did, however, agree to a permanent transfer option.

Although the 24-year-old has excelled at the Championship level in the past, he has found it difficult to contribute to a failing team during his brief half-season at the Stadium of Light. Styles has participated in 12 league games and contributed one assist.
