Only late in the second set, when 6-foot-7 (2.01 meter) Jarry ran down a well-placed drop shot and responded with a cross-court victory, did the German concede a point on his first serve.

After rupturing three ligaments in his right ankle during the 2022 French Open semifinal match against Rafael Nadal, fifth-ranked Alexander Zverev has had a difficult time recovering.

Next Sunday is the opening of this year’s French Open. Zverev is once again expected to win. Especially considering the recent struggles of top-seeded Novak Djokovic and 14-time Roland Garros champion Rafael Nadal.

In Rome, Djokovic lost in the second round and Rafael Nadal in the third. The hips of second-ranked Jannik Sinner and the right forearms of third-ranked Carlos Alcaraz. Both of them who withdrew from Rome, are also a source of concern.

Despite this, Zverev, who has challenged a German court’s penalty ruling due to claims he injured a woman physically, will go on trial beginning at Roland Garros. He recently declared that he will not be there when the court proceedings begin.

Zverev’s health isn’t perfect either. After taking a tumble during his quarterfinal victory over Taylor Fritz, he had his left pinky wrapped. He later claimed to have “tore a capsule” and that his finger was “crooked.”

After winning his first Masters Series title in 2017 by defeating Djokovic in straight sets, he lost to Rafael Nadal in the championship match the following year.

Jarry, a Chilean participating in his maiden Masters Series final, defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarter-finals.

It was Zverev’s third final in Rome. He won in 2017 by defeating Djokovic in straight sets for his maiden Masters Series title. He then lost to Rafael in the title match the next year.
