The 22-year-old has scored 23 goals in 46 appearances for the non-league side

Wigan Athletic is rumored to have entered the race for Chris Conn-Clarke,

an attacking midfielder for Altrincham, therefore Pompey will now have to fight for his services.

The Latics are now prepared to compete with Pompey, Peterborough, and Ipswich Town for the 22-year-old,

who has scored 23 goals in 46 games and propelled his team to the National League play-off semifinals,

according to Alan Nixon. Conn-Clarke was awarded to the National League Team of the Season for his outstanding 2023–24 performance.

He has also contributed 12 assists. In an attempt to strengthen the team before Pompey’s return to the Championship,

manager John Mousinho had hoped to add Conn-Clarke to the mix this summer.Chris Conn-Clarke has scored 23 goals in 46 Alty appearances

However, according to a report from The News on Thursday, the Blues’ approach for the Northern Irish international was turned down.

The soon-to-be Premier League team Ipswich Town was also interested in the former Burnley player,

as Football Transfers disclosed earlier this month. Kieran McKenna, the manager of Ipswich Town,

wanted to bolster his squad choices ahead of what would be a difficult 2024–2025 season.

Conn-Clarke will undoubtedly be lured to join the higher-tier team because Pompey and Ipswich Town,

respectively, offer Championship and Premier League football.

However, the most recent report on Football League World suggests that Conn-Clarke would do well to lower his sights,

setting them on the third-tier options of the Latics or the Posh where he is more likely to gain more consistent game time given the gap that already exists between the National League and League One,

let alone between the National League and Premier League.

Conn-Clarke, 22, had a stint on loan with the National League team before signing a permanent contract with Altrincham last summer.

He had previously signed with Burnley in 2020,

but he never played for the Clarets at the professional level. Instead, he was loaned to Chorley, a team in the National League North.

The Northern Irishman was subsequently signed by Fleetwood Town in 2021 as a free agent,

but Conn-Clarke struggled to get playing time and moved to Alty, where he has since excelled.

Although the offensive midfielder still has two years left on his present deal, Phil Parkinson, the manager of the Robins,

has already stated that he anticipates his star player leaving this summer.

Parkinson is quoted by the MailOnline as saying:

“I would love to reassure everyone that Chris will still be with us next season but,

in all honesty, I can’t.” This was first reported by The News last week.

I will be wearing the biggest smile you have ever seen on my face at the beginning of next season if he is still with us.

I won’t be particularly amazed if not.
