In their quest to sign Philippe Clement‘s first permanent contract of the summer, Rangers are said to have received a significant boost as the Scottish Premiership season draws to a close.

Rangers transfer news

Ibrox is going to have a busy summer as several players are expected to sign free agents, opening up spots for new players in Clement’s squad. As things stand, players like Ryan Jack, Leon Balogun, Kemar Roofe, and John Lundstram are all expected to leave as free agents at the end of the season.

Given that Rangers had made an effort to cling onto their midfield player and that Clement is still a fan of the former Sheffield United player, Lundstram’s departure would be especially upsetting. However, there has not yet been a breakthrough in the negotiations.

Having said that, Rangers have also been concentrating more on bringing in some significant additions this summer. In what may be a summertime pattern of turning loan deals into permanent ones in the upcoming months—a tendency that appears to be continuing with Abdallah Sima—the Gers have been linked to permanent moves for both Oscar Cortes and Fabio Silva.

Rangers are now in a strong position to capture Sima from Brighton & Hove Albion on a permanent contract this summer, according to Graeme Bailey. This comes after earlier rumors stated Premier League and European teams, better positioned to match Sima’s £10m–£15m price tag, could hijack the Gers’ contract for the winger.

Though it appears like Rangers have the upper hand, their position at the top of the queue and their apparent ability to finance a deal put them in a prime position to sign Sima permanently following such a fruitful loan period. Certainly, the forward’s arrival would be a perfect way to start Clement’s first summer as manager.

“Terrific” Sima has become crucial for Rangers

Given the impression Sima has had while on loan at Ibrox, Rangers should place signing him near the top of their priority list this summer. Sima’s record of 16 goals and 2 assists after 38 games across all competitions shows how significant he has grown in just his first season with the Rangers. At just 22, he is probably only going to improve on that form the following season, whether he plays for the Rangers or somewhere else.

Among those who have recognized the winger’s potential is former Brighton coach Billy Reid, who stated via The Scottish Sun at the beginning of the season: “He’s a player who needs to be at his top physical level to show what he’s capable of.

“He trained well and worked really hard in every session because he wants to do well. As a lad, he’s terrific. He was one of those boys who always came in with a smile on his face. He’s an infectious character and even when his English wasn’t great, he was always a big part of the dressing room. Now he’s comfortable speaking the language, I’m sure he is popular around Ibrox.”
