Liam Rosenior is ‘on the radar’ as sunderland top target

Today marks three months after Sunderland fired Michael Beale, and they haven’t had a permanent head coach

since.

Although Mike Dodds was named interim manager until the conclusion of the season, nobody could have

predicted how disastrous his tenure would be.

Two weeks after their final-day loss to Sheffield Wednesday, the team has still not named a new manager,

disappointing supporters who had hoped they would replace the outgoing manager at the end of the season.

Will Still, 31, left Reims after their last game against Rennes this evening, and the 31-year-old has been strongly

linked to a move for them.

It appears more likely that the Black Cats will select someone from overseas

as they have also been linked to Bo Svensson and Rene Maric.

“On the radar” is Liam Rosenior.

But if “they fail to land one of the foreign targets,” as journalist Alan Nixon put it,

they could still look a lot closer to home.

“Liam Rosenior is on the radar for Birmingham City and Sunderland – after turning down an approach from

Plymouth Argyle,” Nixon stated in a Patreon post.Even though Rosenior had left Hull City, Argyle asked to

speak with him. Rival clubs, nevertheless, can be more alluring and are actively interested.

If they are unable to land one of the foreign targets for the Black Cats role, Sunderland may make a serious

challenge to Rosenior.

“Blues are awaiting word on Tony Mowbray’s illness recuperation, but in the event that his return is not

feasible, they would move for Rosenior.”

Why is he so poorly regarded?

Despite missing out on the play-offs, Hull City supporters were startled to learn that Liam Rosenior was going,

and they obviously thought the “fabulous” 39-year-old would be back for the next campaign.

It is especially unexpected that he has drawn interest from Birmingham and Plymouth thus far, one of whom

will be playing League One football, considering his age and his potential with The Tigers.
