Pompey’s Championship rivals confirm signing as Prime Minister sends Southampton message ahead of Leeds United clash
As they get ready for life back in the Championship, Portsmouth appears to be in for a hectic and thrilling
summer.
After dominating the table for six years, John Mousinho‘s team concluded their six-year tenure in
League One and now looks forward to the challenge of playing in the lower divisions.
Oxford United’s victory over Bolton in the play-off final guarantees them a spot in the Championship with
Pompey and Derby County, where they will take on teams like Middlesbrough, Sunderland, and either Leeds
United or Southampton. This Sunday’s Championship highlights feature a huge early signing plus a message
from a pretty renowned fan regarding the latter pair’s matchup in the play-off final the following week.
Stoke affirms the signing
Stoke City defeated many rivals to get Rotherham goalkeeper Viktor Johansson. When the summer transfer
window opens next month, Johansson will make the move after the Potters invoked an unknown release clause.
Johansson had yet another fantastic season on the field and was named Rotherham’s player of the year, even
though his team finished utterly last. However, a release clause—believed to be worth about £1 million—became
activated following their relegation to League One, and Stoke moved quickly to sign the Swede.
Regarding his move, Johansson remarked, “It’s brilliant to be here.” “My family and I are very proud of this
moment, and Stoke City is a huge club.” I am excited for it since I have heard amazing things about the Stoke
supporters, both at home and away. I’m excited to get started because I truly want to be a part of this adventure
and I share the goals of the Club.
Sunak’s communication
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak expressed his feelings on social media following Southampton’s confirmation for
the Championship play-off final. After a scoreless draw at the Hawthorns, Russell Martin’s Saints defeated West
Brom 3-1 in their semi-final second-leg match.
Although Southampton’s victory was ultimately decisive, the St Mary’s pitch was overrun by supporters during
the wild celebrations that followed the game. Sunak, a Saints supporter, was seen on camera in the stands and
immediately expressed his feelings.
“I’m still excited,” Sunak tweeted. “We’re going to Wembley!” Southampton will now play Leeds in the
championship game at Wembley on Sunday; the winner will advance to the Premier League along with
Leicester City and Ipswich Town.
