David Raya affirms his position about a long-term move to Arsenal

While cautiously optimistic, David Raya is hoping to seal a permanent transfer to Arsenal. He isn’t taking anything for granted, even though the Gunners are expected to exercise their summer option to purchase him outright from Brentford for £27 million.

He did, however, disclose that there have been no conversations regarding his long-term future with the Arsenal management prior to today’s vital game against Everton.

Raya became Arsenal’s third Premier League Golden Glove winner, following in the footsteps of Petr Cech and Wojciech Szczesny. He is also currently Mikel Arteta’s first choice at the Emirates, ahead of England international Aaron Ramsdale.

28-year-old Raya said, “No, no. All I have on my mind is the here and now. I want to avoid dwelling too much on the future. I can’t do it right now. I have to consider Sunday’s game.

We then take a summer break. It is not my decision to sign. Mikel and the club will decide. If I’ve done well enough, maybe they’ll extend a contract offer to me.

Of course, I would adore returning here for the upcoming season; if that proves to be the case, it will truly be a dream come true. This is not where I want it to end. I’m craving more. With Arsenal, I want to win trophies.

Raya’s respect for fellow Spaniard Arteta and the Gunners manager’s unwavering efforts to improve the club’s standards both on and off the field are undeniable.

“As a manager, he’s the same as he is as a person,” the 28-year-old former Blackburn goalie continued.

“He is aware of his wants. He demonstrates for us how to maximize group performance.
