Former Rangers player Graeme Souness has acknowledged that he was “mugged off” by Rod Stewart,

a Celtic supporter, after they placed a wager on the Scottish Premiership.

With one game remaining, Brendan Rodgers‘ Hoops defeated Philippe Clement’s

Light Blues 5-0 at Rugby Park on Wednesday, May 15, to capture the league title.

After Celtic won, Souness, the Scotsman, says he shouldn’t have taken the risk.

He and Stewart had placed a £10,000 wager, with the Ibrox icon supporting Clement’s Gers to win the league.

He wrote: “A very, very bad week for me this week, given that I’m not a gambler” in a piece for the Daily Mail on May 17.

“After watching my old club Rangers lose the Old Firm derby last Saturday,

I was hoodwinked into having a bet with the obsessive Celtic fan and an old acquaintance of mine,

Rod Stewart, on who would win the Scottish Premiership.

I should have followed my instincts and not accepted that bet,” I wrote him a £10,000 check last Tuesday.

Will Philippe Clement and the Rangers recover to defeat Celtic at Hampden?

Over the season, there has been ups and downs in this title race.

The Gers looked all but out of the game when Michael Beale left Ibrox and was replaced by Clement.

However, a strong run of performance under the Belgian and a significant

hiccup on Glasgow’s green side guaranteed that the Light Blues could fight

their way back into the race and maybe take the lead at the beginning of 2024.

Rangers have absolutely collapsed over the past several weeks, for whatever reason,

and it is obvious that significant adjustments are needed at Ibrox in order to catch up to their Glasgow rivals.

When the transfer market opens this summer,

Clement is anticipated to give his team a significant makeover.

While it is unclear how much money he will need to spend,

Souness and the other Gers supporters will be hoping that the team does well at Hampden.
