Black Cats have approached former Hull City manager Liam Rosenior about their open management position, according to Football Insider.

The Black Cats are aiming to schedule an appointment as soon as possible so that they may begin preparation for the next season after a turbulent year.

They decided to break ways with Tony Mowbray in December and hire Michael Beale as his replacement.

The 43-year-old had a gruelling experience at the Stadium of Light.

He was fired after only 12 games, half of which he lost, and Mike Dodds took over as temporary manager for the third time.

The youthful coach was given the duty of leading the team until the conclusion of the season,

allowing the board plenty of time to make the proper decision on a permanent successor.

Since then, Alex Neil, Roy Keane, Will Still, Bo Svensson, and Paul Heckingbottom have all been linked.

Following his departure from French club Reims, he remains the favourite.

The 31-year-old was extensively connected to the post in February, leading both him and his club to dismiss the claims.

However, Rosenior’s sudden availability appears to have caused a shift in focus.

The former Derby County interim led Hull to seventh place in the Championship, missing out on the playoffs by three points.

His subsequent dismissal from the MKM Stadium came as quite a shock, although it has already alerted several clubs.

According to reports, Rosenior turned down the option to return to Plymouth Argyle immediately,

despite Birmingham City’s expressed interest.

The Blues are putting together a shortlist in case current manager Mowbray is unable to return to St Andrews,

with the 39-year-old at the top of the list.

However, Sunderland has increased its interest. According to rumours,

the Wearsiders have made an approach and will face Birmingham, who was just relegated.

After a promising start, the six-time English champions struggled throughout the season, finishing 16th.
