After Celtic defeated Rangers in a two-horse race to win the title,

Simon Jordan bemoaned the lack of competition in the Scottish Premiership.

Rangers were unable to overtake Celtic at the top of the league

after their decisive 5-0 victory over Kilmarnock on May 15.

With one game left, six points separated the two teams.

The Bhoys were on the verge of victory after the Gers lost the Old Firm derby on May 11.

They needed just one point from their remaining two games to secure victory,

which they have already achieved.

Jordan further stated on talkSPORT [May 16, 11:25 a.m.]

that Celtic’s 12 consecutive league titles are a damning indictment of the lack of competition in the division.

“Five of the last 12 years Celtic won the title Rangers weren’t in the league,

so they’ve won seven out of eight with them in, which is a dominance,” Jordan said.

Yet hasn’t it been like this forever?

“The tragedy of the Scottish league and my disappointment

with it is the quality of domestic football in Scotland;

it’s either Rangers or Celtic winning this league.”

Where are these amazing players that came out of Scotland?

Where are the earnings? All these things, where are they?

Can Rangers challenge Celtic’s hegemony?

If not for Rangers’ championship win in the 2020–21 season,

Celtics’ supremacy would have been intact for the previous 13 years.

With 102 points that season—winning 32 and dropping

none of their 38 league games—the Gers finished 25 points ahead of their opponents

and won the championship. Apart from that championship-winning season,

Rangers has been close every other year, placing second and within ten points of Celtic,

with the exception of 2019–20, when the COVID-19 pandemic forced the competition’s midway cancellation.

But if the Gers are to overcome their adversaries,

it is their recent performance in the Scottish Premiership’s Old Firm derby that needs to improve.

In their last 11 league derbies, dating back to the beginning of 2022,

Rangers has only won once. In the upcoming seasons,

Rangers will catch up to their opponents if Philippe Clement

can put together a team that can defeat the Bhoys.

That has to be the ultimate goal going ahead.

In other Rangers news, a fresh Ibrox plan could lead to a breakthrough for Cole McKinnon.
