Jake Clarke-Salter: Big update on Celtic deal hijack – sources

According to Football Insider, Celtic are hoping that the allure of Champions League football will be enough to entice Queens Park Rangers defender Jake Clarke-Salter.

Football Insider claimed on Monday (13 May) that the Hoops are “confident” of reaching QPR’s asking price for the 26-year-old defender this summer, which is supposedly between £5-7 million.

According to sources, Brendan Rodgers’ side is poised to receive a £35 million transfer budget boost after winning

the Scottish Premiership and qualifying directly for the Champions League tournament.

Clarke-Salter is also desired in England, according to Football Insider,

who reported on April 6 that Crystal Palace, Burnley, and Bournemouth are all interested in signing him this summer.

Celtic are expected to struggle to match the pay on offer in the Premier League and the top tier of the Championship,

but they remain optimistic about fighting off any hijacking and winning the race for the ex-Chelsea player.

Celtic want to sign Clarke-Salter despite English interest.

Rodgers is looking to reinforce his defence with a marquee acquisition in the offseason.

Clarke-Salter meets the bill after spending time with QPR in the Championship, where he is under contract until June 2026.

This season, the 26-year-old made 33 appearances in all competitions, including 29 starts.

Celtic presently have Cameron Carter-Vickers, Maik Nawrocki, Gustaf Lagerbielke, Liam Scales, and Stephen Welsh on their defensive roster.

The Hoops are on the verge of defending their Scottish Premiership title and will meet Rangers in the Scottish Cup final later this month.
