Ipswich Town confirm the signing of Southampton striker Adam Armstrong on 3 years deal

Since their relegation to the Championship was confirmed, Southampton have seen several of their players linked with possible moves away.

The most recent player to depart the team is Tino Livramento, who joined Newcastle United,

but James Ward-Prowse, Kyle Walker-Peters, and Che Adams have also been the subject of rumors.

Adam Armstrong, a striker, is the new name on that list, though.

The forward, who joined the South Coast club in 2021, is currently in the midst of his third season there.

The 26-year-old was the star of Southampton’s Friday night victory over Sheffield Wednesday last week,

opening the score in the team’s 2-1 victory. But the new transfer rumors involving the player might have eclipsed that.FA Cup Third Round - Crystal Palace v Southampton

Journalist Alan Nixon initially revealed in April that Ipswich Town was considering signing Armstrong,

who had a rough couple of seasons with the South Coast team.

But after Ipswich won promotion to the Championship and appeared to be concentrating their early summer efforts on other players, that interest dwindled.

Nixon, though, has offered an update on Ipswich’s interest, stating that the Tractor Boys are prepared to pay an outrageous £8 million to acquire the Southampton striker.

If this deal goes through, Ipswich would have paid a club record for a move,

but it doesn’t appear like it will be as simple as they may have believed when Southampton was demoted from the Premier League.

With only four goals in 53 games for the Saints, Armstrong has disappointed a lot of Southampton supporters.

Moreover, he alternated between the starting lineup and the bench during the previous season while playing for three different coaches.

But, Armstrong has a new opportunity this season since he is working for a manager who seems to want to keep him around

If he can continue his recent success in the Championship, Armstrong will be able to lead his team back to the Premier League.

The 26-year-old signed a four-year contract with the Saints in the summer of 2021 after leaving Blackburn Rovers.

With two years left on his present contract, Southampton will have plenty time to consider their options.
