Goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, 24, is expected to get

a lot of interest from Southampton this summer,

as the 24-year-old stopper is expected to be in high demand.

This summer, two Premier League teams

and Scottish powerhouse Celtic are interested in the 34-year-old.

McCarthy has only played in seven games for the Saints this season,

but he still has a chance to assist Russell Martin’s team

return to the top division through the Championship play-offs later this month.

Given that goalie Joe Hart plans to retire at the end of the season,

Celtic is reportedly the team showing the most interest, according to the Daily Mail.

But because he is English, Newcastle United and Liverpool

are also considering signing the veteran goalie to serve as a backup.

Caoimhin Kelleher of Liverpool is eager to return

to first team action after an outstanding season serving as Alisson’s backup.

Aaron Ramsdale of Arsenal is someone Newcastle wants to sign,

but they are aware that signing the England international could be expensive.

McCarthy is drawn to the challenge of working with Celtic in Scotland,

especially since they will be playing European football next season,

despite his experience in the Premier League with Reading, QPR, Crystal Palace, and Southampton.

The goalkeeper for Southampton was playing

well over the weekend as his team drew 0-0 in the first leg of their Championship

play-off semi-final against West Brom.

McCarthy’s performance against the Hawthorns was praised by manager Martin

after he twice denied Albion attacker Grady Diangana.

“He was massive today, (he has great with) long throws

and the way he came and dealt with things,” Martin said.

“I’ve been impressed with our defense over the past two weeks.

“It seems like nothing bothers him. Despite his easygoing demeanor,

he has a strong belief in his abilities as a goalie. He has performed admirably.”
