Former Celtic manager Neil Lennon is apparently on the verge of returning to football management, 19 months after leaving Omonia in Cyprus.

According to The Sun, Rapid Bucharest has offered Lennon a two-year contract for £750,000 per season.

The 52-year-old is set to be named Rapid Bucharest’s next manager after the club’s upcoming derby match against rivals Steaua Bucharest. The game will take place at the newly completed Rapid-Giulesti Stadium, and Lennon has been invited as a special guest.

Lennon’s prospective appointment was hinted at during a Sky Sports coverage of Celtic’s title-winning game against Kilmarnock, in which he served as a pundit. When questioned by presenter Eilidh Barbour if congratulations were in order, Lennon replied warily, “Not yet. We are currently in talks, but I will keep you updated.

The remark sparked a hilarious conversation with fellow analyst James McFadden, who remarked, “Two games in a row beside us and that’s what it does to you?”.

Time will tell whether Neil Lennon returns to management.
