Newcastle United under-21’s head coach Ben Dawson admitted that newest signing Alfie Harrison has had a “tough start” to life at Newcastle.

Harrison left Manchester City to join the Magpies in January after making an impression for the Sky Blues

under-18 team throughout the first eight games of the season, tallying eight goals and dishing out four assists.

Harrison has been a member of Newcastle’s under-21 team since signing, and in ten games,

he has helped set up three goals.

Eddie Howe, the manager of Toon, is also interested in Harrison. The 18-year-old has been spotted practicing

with the first squad in the past.

Harrison has grown gradually, according to Dawson

He’s had a difficult time; he’ll probably admit that to you. Despite how far he has gone from Man City,

the step up to the under-21s is significant and only gets larger for him. It has been a true stretch and challenge.

“But he’s coping well, we hope that next year in the under-21s group again he continues to make the steps

forward then we’ll see where he gets to.”

Dawson is happy with his team.

Dawson stated after giving the season some thought, “There have been a lot of ups and downs.

We’ve participated in the UEFA Youth League, played in over 40 games this season, and helped the first team

out when needed.

Both the players and the staff have faced a significant challenge. I think back to players who were benched in

the Champions League and made their Premier League debuts. Boys borrowing money and then returning it.

“We can be really pleased with all those successes.”
