The striker, who was once linked with Sunderland, has signed for a club in League One after his release

Former Sunderland target Jonson Clarke-Harris was released by League One team Peterborough United earlier this month,

and he signed with newly relegated Rotherham United.

In January 2023, there were rumors that Sunderland had sent scouts to observe the forward,

and Sunderland was mentioned in passing. Amid the reports at the time, Darragh McAnthony,

the owner of Posh, put a £5 million price tag on the player.

Nevertheless, despite having an excellent League One record,

the 29-year-old striker was let go by Peterborough United this summer.

The striker scored 87 goals in 190 games throughout his four years with the team,

and he was the division’s top scorer twice in three years between 2021 and 2023.

In the 2023–24 campaign, Clarke–Harris scored 13 goals as well,

helping Peterborough to lose in the League One play-off semifinals for the second straight year.

However, Clake-Harris has already signed with Steve Evans’ Rotherham United.

According to the Millers, the FA and EFL must approve the change.

After being released by Peterborough United at the end of the previous campaign,

the player was linked to a number of teams, including Charlton Athletic, Mansfield Town, and his former team, Bristol Rovers.

However, he decided to rejoin Rotherham United, where he had played from 2014 to 2018,

making 79 appearances and scoring 10 goals.

Evans was the one who paid a club record to sign Clarke-Harris to Rotherham back in 2014.

“Of course, at the start of this season, we felt he would be leaving twice, particularly the first window,

but stayed and by that time I had made my mind up that I wanted to go in a different direction,” Ferguson stated.

I hope the best for him; I have no doubt that he will make a great move, and he deserves it.”

In addition, Peterborough United released 23-year-old defender Vontae Daley-Campbell,

goalkeeper Fynn Talley, 21, and midfielder Jeando Fuchs, 26,

as the League One team gets ready for a summer shake-up under Ferguson and McAnthony ahead of 2024–25.
