A year after being demoted from the top division, Leeds is fighting to get back into the Premier League.

Maximilian Wober, a defender for Leeds,

is apparently looking for a £15 million contract after Borussia Monchengladbach showed interest in turning

the Austrian’s loan agreement into a permanent one.

According to German reports, the Whites may move quickly to discuss Wober’s future following their Championship play-off campaign.

After Leeds was relegated from the Premier League the previous season,

Wober played this season on loan at the Bundesliga team. The 26-year-old has played for Gladbach in 27 different competitions.

The German team has stated that they hope to retain Wober through the summer.

“We are having discussions with everyone involved, of course we would like to keep Max with us,

” BILD was informed by Roland Virkus, the sporting director. However, the expectations are very high.

According to BILD, Leeds is seeking to pay £15 million for

the adaptable defender in the summer and has stated that he will stay if no interested party makes a bid of that amount.

The lower league team is even more optimistic that Wober’s performance for Austria at Euro 2024 would boost his value.

Next season, Wober might wind up staying in the Championship for at least a year.

Leeds takes on Norwich in the play-off semi-final with a trip to Wembley on the line following a goalless draw in the first leg.

Due to a sharp decline in performance before the conclusion of the season,

Daniel Farke’s team lost ground to Ipswich for the second automatic promotion position.

Wober hasn’t spoken to Leeds in a while, the player disclosed lately.

After the Euros, when Austria faces a formidable group that includes France, Poland,

and the Netherlands, he wants his future to be settled.

“I’m at ease with the fact that I haven’t been spoken to in a long,” Wober recently stated.

“I would like to know where I will play after the European Championships.”

In January 2023, Wober joined Leeds in a £10 million deal from RB Salzburg.

But in just four months, the Elland Road team was demoted from the Premier League.

After that, he made the decision to stay in the top division of football and went on loan to Gladbach for the 2023–24 season.

The versatile player, who played left-back and center-back for Ajax and Sevilla,

will be closely observing Leeds’ match against Norwich on Thursday.

The victor of that game will play West Brom or Southampton in the play-off final on May 26 at Wembley.
