Leif Davis may be of interest to the Irons, but the Tractor Boys’ negotiation position has improved as a result of their promotion.

With manager David Moyes leaving at the end of the season, some may ask if he is still on the Irons’ radar.

However, targets are identified by recruitment teams and those working behind the scenes.

Davis might be a great addition at full-back because Ben Johnson is expected to leave

the London Stadium when his contract expires this summer.

At the beginning of what will be a new chapter for the team after their current manager’s tenure ends,

the Irons’ owners might be eager to support Moyes’ successor in the transfer market this summer.

Leif Davis’ 2023/24 campaign at Ipswich Town (all competitions)
Appearances 44
Goals 2
Assists 21

Though he has been more of an asset than a liability at Portman Road,

he has occasionally been caught out at the back, most notably in Ipswich’s recent home match against Southampton.

Leif Davis’ contract situation may be a boost for West Ham

With two years remaining on his contract, the left-back is considering exercising his option for a contract extension.

It appears likely that the Tractor Boys will exercise their option to extend the player’s terms by a further year if

Ipswich is unable to sign him to a contract by the time his current one ends in 2025.

There is likely a cap on the price they can want for the defender, though,

given that he doesn’t have much longer remaining on his deal.

While they could still be able to get a good price for him,

Ipswich will be concerned that he won’t have much time left on his contract in a year, which would lower his value significantly.

That caution could be useful in

Ipswich Town are in a great position to keep hold of Leif Davis

If Ipswich had stayed in the second division,

it wouldn’t have been shocking if they were obliged to cash in on the defender given his contract predicament.

In Davis’ case, however, a promotion may change everything for the Tractor Boys.

Given that the 24-year-old is unlikely to press for a move away from Suffolk,

interested clubs may be less inclined to make a bid at this time.

The left-back may not get the chance to play frequently in the top division at many other elite clubs,

but he will most likely get it at Portman Road.

He will undoubtedly want to stay put as a result, which would discourage other teams from making offers for him.

Not only

The time has come for Ipswich to sign the player to a contract, and because the team is now playing in the top division,

it is hard to understand why the full-back wouldn’t want to sign a new agreement.

In addition to perhaps helping him financially,

it would provide him more assurance about his future because the Tractor Boys would probably be able to offer him a significant pay increase if he gets promoted.

In the event that he signs a new contract, his value will increase even further,

which would enable McKenna’s team to drive West Ham away from a move for the 24-year-old.
