For his response to John Lundstram’s red card in the most recent Glasgow Derby—which saw Celtic defeat Rangers 2-1—Kenny Miller has come under heavy fire.

Despite admitting that Lundstram’s firing was legal, Miller fought the decision on multiple media channels, including live appearances on Sky Sports and BBC Radio Scotland, as well as in his Daily Record column. Lundstram’s challenge on Celtic’s Alistair Johnston was marked by high studs and a lack of control, providing a serious risk of harm.

Referee commentator Conroy blasted Miller’s approach, expressing surprise at the attempts to defend the indefensible. He noted on Behind the Whistles,

Conroy also praised the match officials’ handling of the event, stating that referee Willie Collum made the correct decision after studying the scenario several times. He stated on Behind the Whistles, “Well, I can clearly say I’m not in Kenny Miller’s camp for those remarks.

“I understand why, as an ex-player, you believe you can defend one of your colleagues.

“That’s unjustified. That is completely unacceptable. This is a red card every day of the week.

“He came through high and fast. He endangers the opponent’s safety.

“That meets all the criteria for a red card.

“That’s a red card every day of the week.” And I’ll say one thing. Steven McLean was totally proper in getting involved and informing Willie that it was a red card.”
The correct decision was made following VAR intervention.
As Sutton stated at the Player of the Year awards on Sunday, Kenny Miller is the only person on the earth who does not believe the tackle deserved a red card.
