Aston Villa have reportedly held initial talks ahead of a summer transfer swoop
for Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho.

The Nigeria international’s contract is set to expire in

June and he’s yet to agree a new deal with the Foxes,

opening up a free transfer option for several interested parties.

Villa are claimed to be keen on signing Iheanacho if he does indeed become available for nothing.

The 27-year-old, who joined Leicester from Manchester City in 2017 for a fee of £25 million,

has scored just six goals across all competitions this term but he’s mainly been utilised off the bench.

Aston Villa is rumored to have held early talks with Leicester City

forward Kelechi Iheanacho prior to a summer transfer raid.

Because he and the Foxes are unable to come to an agreement on a new contract,

the Nigerian international’s current one is set to expire in June,

and a number of interested individuals may be able to transfer for free.

Iheanacho is supposedly keen to join Villa if he becomes a free agent.

Despite largely being used as a substitute, the 27-year-old,

who paid £25 million to sign with Leicester from Manchester City in 2017,

has only scored six goals this season across all competitions.

Iheanacho has turned down many contract extensions from

Leicester because he is looking for a new challenge.

Villa is said to have been monitoring the situation

and to have been persuaded enough to have already had initial discussions with the player’s representation.

As recently as Thursday, May 9, Monchi, President of Football Operations at Villa,

is rumored to have communicated with Iheanacho’s team.

According to reports, the meeting took place in Greece prior

to the Villans’ second leg of the Europa Conference League semi-final matchup with Olympiacos.

Iheanacho and Villa make a good combination?

If Iheanacho is fine with helping off the bench and featuring in cup competitions,

then it could be a good move. But Villa must take care not to sign a player

who could become unhappy quickly.

Perhaps it’s not the best fit,

but anything can happen in the transfer window – especially in the free agents’ market.
