Connor Barron is an Aberdeen midfielder that Rangers are interested in signing this summer,

Football League World reports.

The 21-year-old is scheduled to leave Pittodrie after failing to reach an agreement on a new contract with the Dons,

and the outlet revealed on their website on May 13 that the Light Blues are considering a deal to bring him in.

Therefore, he will only require minor training compensation.

However, Celtic and Swansea City, two Old Firm rivals,

will compete with Rangers for his signature; the Welsh team’s January approach was turned down.

There have also been reports of interest in the Scottish youth from Italy, where Cagliari are reportedly pursuing him.

Can an SPFL opponent provide Philippe Clement with midfield support for Rangers?
This season, Barron has emerged as a key member of an Aberdeen team that is struggling,

making him an obvious target for the Ibrox recruitment department.

Some have expressed surprise that the Scottish Premiership team has yet to guarantee his long-term future,

and it appears that Philippe Clement is now attempting to capitalize on this situation.

The Old Firm derby loss over the weekend, in which  the team’s midfield partner,

struggled and the departing John Lundstram had a dreadful performance and

has undoubtedly increased attention on bolstering that part of the squad.

It wouldn’t be shocking if there were more than one new addition in the park’s center

because Ryan Jack is anticipated to leave this summer when his contract also expires.

Barron appears to be a reasonably priced alternative with potential to grow, and if Celtic is interested in him,

it seems like even more incentive to make a move, considering that the midfield struggle ultimately

decided the most recent meeting between the two Glasgow teams.

It remains to be seen, though, if Rangers and Celtic have both waited too long

and are presently receiving less attention than they deserve from the south or other regions.

If the Dons man leaves, it will undoubtedly be a wasted opportunity,

given that Clement has now stated that significant change is taking place in the upcoming transfer window.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues hope to add a highly sought-after player who is currently on the move to their roster.
