New EFL rule changes that Portsmouth need to be aware of for next season

EFL clubs voted in favour of reintroducing the five substitutions rule at the EFL’s annual general meeting on June 10 with some minor tweaks to the rule that was introduced in the 2020/21 season

For the 2022–2023 season, all clubs will be permitted to make up to five substitutes thanks to modifications made to the EFL’s regulations.

During the pandemic-hit 2020–21 season, EFL clubs were permitted to substitute as many as five players.

Nevertheless, this was dropped for the 2021–2022 campaign.Starting in the 2022–2023 season,

Portsmouth manager Danny Cowley and his opponent managers will have the option to substitute five players from a possible seven on the bench for every EFL league match.

Clubs may only substitute players three times throughout the course of a match; substitutions made at halftime are not included in this count.

“During the 2021–2022 league season, clubs could use three of the seven substitutes they had nominated.

Clubs may include up to seven substitutes on their team sheet for any future League games,

with no more than five of those players able to participate in action, according to an EFL statement.

“A club may make more than one substitution at each of its three opportunities to make substitutions throughout the encounter,

but each club is only allowed a maximum of three opportunities.

Clubs are permitted to make replacements throughout the half,

and any changes made during this interval will not count toward the allotted three chances.

“The EFL’s AGM meeting on Friday, June 10 was where the decision to amend the regulations was made.

The updated rules will take effect right away.

Allowing home teams to wear their away or third kits is one of the other modifications that need to be implemented.

This is done to prevent kit conflicts, which could make it challenging for color-blind individuals to distinguish between the uniforms worn by the two teams.

In order to prevent kit conflicts, clubs will also be permitted to “mix and match”

components of their registered uniforms. According to the EFL,

it would actively assist teams in resolving possible “color blind kits clashes.”

On Thursday, June 23, at nine in the morning,

Pompey will find out their 2022–2023 schedule when the League One matches are announced. On the weekend of July 30,

the new season will begin.
